During their time with us children develop respect for one another and their environment and become active, creative, emotionally aware and independent individuals. We nurture in them the enthusiasm, confidence and self-motivation to learn and practise skills in key worker groups and in their own play.
We prepare children for school and later life through developing all aspects of their communication, a love of books, words and stories, an interest in problem solving and appreciation of nature.
We implement this through carefully planning the nursery environment to enhance children’s learning and development in each area of learning. As the children play inside or outside, carefully chosen equipment, and questioning and support from nursery staff means that children’s learning and progress is accelerated.
1. Personal , Social and Emotional Development
We support children in developing confidence and independence. We encourage them to begin to form positive relationships and respect for each other. Children learn about managing their own feelings and behaviours. We support the development of attention and concentration skills.
2. Communication and Language Development
We provide a language rich environment, encouraging the children to speak and listen in a variety of situations. We provide extra support for those children who need to build confidence or develop their speaking skills.
3. Physical Development
We give children opportunities to be active and to develop their co-ordination, control and movement. We also teach children about the importance of good hygiene habits, fresh air and healthy food choices.
4. Literacy
Children are given access to a wide range of books and stories to ignite their interest. They are encouraged to link sounds and letters, and early reading and writing is developed.
5. Mathematics
Children are provided with opportunities to develop their understanding and recognition of numbers, quantities and patterns. They are also given frequent opportunities to use shapes, spaces and measures within their play.
6. Understanding the World
We support children’s understanding of the world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about places, people, cultures the environment and the natural world.
7. Expressive Art and Design
Children explore a wide range of media and materials. They will experience a wide range of songs, rhymes, movement activities and stories.
We have detailed bespoke termly plans for each area of learning. These plans are progressive and adaptive to each cohort.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Langley Moor Nursery School, we believe that inclusive education means providing all pupils with appropriate education and support alongside their peers. The Curriculum is all the planned activities that the school organises in order to promote learning, personal growth and development.
